What is the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System?
Star Alert is just one tool that NHCC can use to instantly alert mobile phone subscribers of an emergency or impending campus closure. Other methods of notification include the college website, social media, email, and local news outlets.
Will the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System be tested regularly?
NHCC officials expect to test the system at least three times each semester. We will make every effort to notify subscribers that these alerts are a test. Please remember to keep your mobile number and email address updated in the system.
Is there a fee associated with NHCC STAR ALERT text messages?
NHCC STAR ALERTS are free. However, normal text messaging charges from your mobile phone service provider will apply. If you have free or unlimited texting as part of your plan, no additional charges should be incurred.
What information is required to sign up for NHCC STAR ALERTS?
The following information is required:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Mobile Phone Number
- NHCC Email Address
You may enter more than one mobile phone number and you may enter additional personal email addresses if you like. Faculty and staff may also enter their office location (building) on campus to receive building-specific emergency messages.
After registering, you will receive an authorization SMS/text message on your mobile phone ensuring compatibility.
Will NHCC deactivate my subscription to the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System?
No, but you can text “stop” to 69310 to deactivate your subscription. Or log on to Student Activation, Family Activation, or NHCC Faculty/Staff Activation to unsubscribe.
When will NHCC use STAR ALERTS?
The NHCC STAR ALERT System will be used in the event of an emergency, severe weather, or any incident that impacts campus operations.
Will NHCC share or sell the information obtained through the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System?
Subscribers’ contact information will be used only for NHCC emergency notifications and will not be shared or sold to third-party groups.
Do I have to subscribe to the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System?
Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff are not required to subscribe to the NHCC STAR ALERT Notification System. However, we strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to do so.
What if I elect not to subscribe to the NHCC STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System?
If you choose not to subscribe to NHCC’s STAR ALERT Emergency Notification System, you will not receive an emergency alert on your mobile phone via text message. You may continue to receive alerts via your college email account, the college website and social media, as well as through local media sources.
