The Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution Office supports NHCC's Code of Conduct by focusing on the promotion of personal growth and the development of students. Additionally, the office works to provide preventative training to engage the campus community in discussions of conflict, civic responsibility, and integrity.
Department Goals:
- Promote an educational environment that supports the mission of the college.
- Assist in protecting the campus from disruption and harm, providing a safe educational environment that is conducive to academic success.
- Provide a fair process for each student that comes in contact with the office where students feel that they are being heard.
- Focus on holistic student development to help each student reach their individual goals and prepare them for future endeavors.
- Train faculty and staff on managing difficult, disruptive, and dangerous behavior on campus effectively and with a focus on campus community at the forefront.
- Offer training to assist with conflict coaching, mediation, restorative justice and values-based decision making.
- Provide preventative educational opportunities to help reduce policy violations.
Where a student has been found responsible for a violation, conflict resolution methods such as restorative justice, coaching, mediation, and values-based decision-making are conducted with relevant parties. The purpose of using these methods is to:
- Support students as they recognize and overcome mistakes and take responsibility and control of their behaviors.
- In order to develop options to achieve resolution, students are coached on focusing on the problem at hand, and not on what another person did or said.
- Communicate with the goal of understanding another's point of view, and to repair harm done to relationships between offenders and victims.
- Engage students in character building and coaching on ethical decision-making and integrity.
- Resolve conflict at the lowest level possible through relationship-building, respect of individual differences, education, and support.
- Promote a supportive and safe campus community.
- Explain a process to adjudicate policy violations when necessary and suitable.

Any action by a student that interferes with the education of any other student or interferes with the operations of the college in carrying out its responsibility to provide an education will be considered a violation of this code. Submission of this document to the College constitutes a complaint against the person referred and may result in the initiation of disciplinary procedures. Disciplinary action will be handled in an expeditious manner while providing due process.
