All Veterans and current service members can apply to NHCC for free. Just make sure to show our admissions office your active ID or DD214 when applying. Education Benefits and Resources
Veterans, current service members, and their dependents may be eligible for different types of education benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Speak with a Benefits Counselor from the VA at 1-888-GIBILL1 (1-888-442-4551) or at Ask VA for questions about your benefits eligibility, what benefit to apply for, or benefit amount still remaining.
Montgomery GI Bill® - (MGIB - Chapter 30)
Members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard who are on active duty or have been separated from active duty with an honorable discharge.
Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (Ch. 31)
Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% or Servicemembers with a memorandum rating of at least 20%. This is not specifically an education benefit, but an approved rehabilitation plan that may include college/university courses which are paid for by the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program.
Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33)
Individuals who served on active duty on or after September 10, 2001, for at least 90 days; spouse/children may qualify through Transfer of Entitlement.
Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA - Chapter 35)
Children or spouse of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled from service-connected causes; children or spouse of a veteran who died in service or who died of service-connected causes; children or spouse of another qualifying veteran or serviceperson, such as one currently missing in action or captured in the line of duty.
Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR - Chapter 1606)
Members of the reserve components of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard; members of the Army National Guard and Air National Guard.

The Minnesota GI Bill program provides assistance to eligible Minnesota Veterans, current service members, National Guard and Reserve members who served after September 11, 2001, and eligible spouses and children. The Program provides a maximum benefit of $15,000. This benefit is separate from the other GI Bill® programs and FTA. For more information, please visit the MDVA Minnesota GI Bill website.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our School Certifying Official is located on the second floor of the Campus Center in room CC 234. Additionally, next door in room CC 233 is our Veterans Resource Center (VRC), a lounge dedicated specifically to our NHCC military-connected students (Veterans, current service members, and their family members). The VRC is equipped with a TV, gaming system, computers with free printing, coffee machine, snacks, and ample space for students to connect, relax, study, have a meal, and more!
For assistance with degree-related topics and scheduling, please call our Advising Center at 763-424-0703. State that you are a student planning to use military benefits and that you need to schedule an appointment with our Veterans Academic Advisor. Appointments can be made for in-person, video call, or telephone call settings!
This depends on what benefit(s) you are using! Typically, the earlier you turn in the required documents outlined in our Military and Veteran Successful Start Guide, the quicker you will see them posted to your student account or bank account via direct deposit. Each benefit, or combination of benefits, pays out different amounts depending on several factors. Additionally, some benefits are paid directly to the school, whereas others are sent directly to the student via direct deposit.
