Online class has been great for my lifestyle and schedule. I love being able to dedicate as much or as little time as I want, whatever day of the week I want to work on my classes.

Online Learning FAQs
North Hennepin Community College is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
NHCC's online classes are not harder or easier than in-person classes.
In some cases, online courses do require a student to be more organized and self-motivated than in-person classes. Additionally, to be successful in your online class, you'll need to be comfortable using basic technology, including NHCC's online learning platform D2L.
Synchronous online courses have set meeting times.
Asynchronous online courses do not have set meeting times.
When you register for courses, each course will have one of the following delivery methods listed.
Blended/Hybrid
25% to 75% of instruction is online with regularly scheduled in-person meetings.
Completely Online - Asynchronous
100% of instruction is online with no in-person or synchronous meetings and no proctored exams.
Completely Online - Synchronous
100% of instruction is online with no in-person meetings and no in-person proctored exams. Course has required synchronous online meetings or activities.
Mostly Online
More than 75% of instruction is delivered online with up to two possible in-person meetings and up to four proctored exams, two of which may be administered during the in-person meetings. Proctored exams not included in the in-person meetings may be arranged locally. Courses may have online synchronous components.
HyFlex
HyFlex is a course design model that presents the components of hybrid learning in a flexible course structure that gives students the option of attending sessions in the classroom, participating online, or doing both. Students can change their mode of attendance weekly or by topic, according to need or preference. Models like HyFlex, which present multiple paths through course content, may work well for courses where students arrive with varying levels of expertise or background in the subject matter. Courses built on the HyFlex model help to break down the boundary between the virtual classroom and the physical one. By allowing students access to both platforms, the design encourages discussion threads to move from one platform to the other.
Our online courses are offered using D2L Brightspace learning environment, which enables online students to receive the same learning experience, as well as the same rigor and academic standard, as face-to-face courses. Like traditional face-to-face courses, no two online courses are exactly the same. Some incorporate the latest multi-media technology and others rely on more traditional online learning tools. Some courses require high degrees of student interaction, and others are more self-paced.
