Our career advisors have innovative tools to help you identify your academic interests, personal strengths, and unique attributes.
Getting Started
Access the resources below to increase your career knowledge. Then, meet with a career advisor to discuss your FOCUS results, explore degree pathways, and create a personalized action plan to realize your career goals.
Complete the FOCUS assessments (you will need to enter “NHCC” as the passcode) to learn more about yourself and how your interests, skills, personality, and values relate to career fields and occupations. Schedule a follow-up appointment for career advising and to review your assessment results.
Career Services offers additional tools to assist you with your career exploration, including the Minnesota Career Information System (MCIS). Contact Career Services for login details and a guide sheet on how to use MCIS and ask about other resources to help you in researching careers.
Expand your knowledge on how you can apply your degree in the workplace using the What Can I Do With This Major? tool.
Get curious about the vast array of career opportunities and programs of study that are a potential match with your assessment results. The Minnesota State CAREERwise website will introduce you to career clusters and pathways, as well as informing on growing and emerging careers in Minnesota.
An informational interview is an informal conversation you can have with someone working in an area of interest to you. It is an effective research tool and is best done after preliminary online research. It is not a job interview, and the objective is not to find job openings.
The 2024 Career Guidebook is a great tool to explore career options and select the right program for you.
