NOTE:
- IF YOUR CONTACT PRIMARY EMAIL IS ALREADY SET TO THE @NHCC.EDU ADDRESS YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE ANYTHING.
- ONLY ONE EMAIL ADDRESS CAN BE SELECTED AS A PRIMARY EMAIL ADDRESS. THIS IS THE EMAIL THAT WILL SHOW AS YOUR FROM: ADDRESS.
- ALL EMAIL ADDRESSES ASSIGNED TO YOU AT ANY OTHER MINNSTATE INSTITUTIONS (THAT HAVE MIGRATED TO THE MINNSTATE OFFICE 365 SHARED TENANT) ARE ASSIGNED TO THIS EMAIL ACCOUNT, SO THIS INBOX WILL ACCEPT ANY EMAIL SENT TO ALL OF THESE ADDRESSES. HOWEVER, YOUR FROM: ADDRESS WILL HAVE TO BE SELECTED AS DIRECTED IN STEPS 1 THROUGH 6 BELOW AND THIS WILL BE THE DEFAULT ON ALL EMAIL THAT YOU SEND.
1. Go to starid.minnstate.edu
2. Select Sign into Profile.
3. Sign in with your StarID and StarID password.
4. Select Office 365 Contact.
5. Select Contact Card.
6. Type in your NHCC email address:
- This is typically firstname.lastname@nhcc.edu. This email was assigned to you when you were first admitted to NHCC or hired by NHCC.
Change Default Address Book
When you're sending an email, you usually want your most common contacts to come up when you select recipients. To ensure this, you might want to change your default address book.
1. On the Home tab, in the Find group, click Address Book.
2. In the Address Book dialog box that opens, click Tools > Options.
3. Under "When opening the address book, show this address list first:, choose the name of the address book you want to use by default.
4. Click OK, and close the dialog box.
5. After restarting your Outlook Application, the default should be changed.
Backup Outlook Rules For Windows
1. Click the File tab.
2. Click Manage Rules & Alerts.
3. Click Options.
NOTE: ALL THE RULES LISTED HERE WILL BE BACKED UP, NOT JUST THE SELECTED RULES.
4. Click Export Rules.
5. In the File name box, type the path and file name for the set of rules that you want to export. (i.e. OutlookRules.rwz)
6. Click Save.
Once you've exported your rules file, click OK on both the Options and Rules and Alerts dialog boxes to return to the main Mail screen.
Import Outlook Rules For Windows
1. Click the File tab.
2. Click Manage Rules & Alerts.
3. Click Options.
4. Click Import Rules.
5. The "Import Rules from" dialog box displays. Navigate to the folder in which you saved your rules backup file, select the .rwz file, and then click Open.
6. You will notice the screen behind the Option windows will fill up with your custom rules.
7. Click OK
NOTE: IF YOU CHECKED EMAIL BEFORE IMPORTING YOUR RULES, YOU CAN RUN YOUR RULES NOW ON THE EMAIL YOU'VE RECEIVED.
STEPS TO RUN RULES ON RECEIVED EMAILS
1. Click Run Rules Now on the toolbar above the list of rules on the "Rules and Alerts" dialog box.
2. Click on Select All.
3. Click Run Now.
Export Your Contact From Outlook
Click Export Contacts to Outlook on Microsoft's support site.
Import Your Contact From Outlook
Click Import Contacts to Outlook on Microsoft's support site.
Save And Restore Your Outlook Distribution List
If you have distribution/contact lists in Outlook that you wish to keep you can send the list to yourself and then restore it when you login with your new username.
You will need to "share" the distribution list to yourself via email. You can open the email and restore the list under your new username.
1. Right click on the distribution/contact list.
2. Click on Share and then Share Contacts.
3. Put in your email address and email to yourself.
4. Open the email and follow the instructions in the email.
Export Addresses from the Junk Email Filter Lists
YOU CAN EXPORT YOUR OUTLOOK JUNK EMAIL FILTER LISTS AS A TEXT (.TXT) FILE
- In Outlook click on the Junk Email Icon.
- Click on Junk Email Options.
- For each of these tabs Safe Senders, Safe Recipients, or Blocked Senders, click Export to File.
- Select where you want to save the file.
- In the File name box, enter a name for the file.
- Click Save.
Import Addresses from the Junk Email Filter Lists in Outlook
- In Outlook click on the Junk Email Icon.
- Click on Junk Email Options.
- For each of these tabs Safe Senders, Safe Recipients, or Blocked Senders, click Import From File.
Category Color
If colored categories did not migrate over, you will need to recreate them.
You can use the instructions Create and assign color categories from Microsoft support.
Copy Email Signature
1. Send yourself an email with the signature on the email that is being sent.
2. Open the email after migration and copy the signature to your Signatures and Stationary in your new email.
