Scholarship Details
Because of generous donations from North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) alumni, former and current NHCC faculty and staff, community members, businesses, and organizations, over 120 NHCC scholarships are available to help NHCC students pursue their college dream.
One application is all students need to complete. Students will be considered for NHCC scholarships based upon their student information, essays, and other information provided.
Students will be prompted to select between the "New and Returning Student" application or the "Graduating Student" application when you click "Apply for Scholarships" in the above blue box.
New and Returning Scholarships are for students who will be either new to NHCC or returning to NHCC this fall. Graduating Student Scholarships are for NHCC students who graduated last December or will be graduating this May.
The essays required on the scholarship applications play a primary role in awarding the scholarships. It is important to dedicate time to writing and reviewing your essays. The NHCC Writing Center and TRIO programs (for those who are TRIO students) are willing to review your essays and provide feedback. Many students use this service so best to make an appointment early as appointments are limited and often fill within two weeks of the deadline.
Disbursement Information
With few exceptions, all New and Returning Student scholarships are awarded for the academic year and split equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. For example, a $2,000 scholarship will be disbursed $1,000 in the Fall semester and $1,000 in the Spring semester. Each semester, you must be registered for the minimum required number of credits identified in your scholarship. Scholarships are distributed at the same time as all other aid. Graduating Student scholarships are disbursed to the transfer institution after the awarded student has submitted registration confirmation to the NHCC Foundation office.
