A black and white photograph by John Gregor, titled Hanging Tree Milky Way

ARTIST: John Gregor

TITLE: Milky Way Over Hanging Tree

MATERIALS: Archival Ink Jet Photographic Print

Artist Statement Excerpt from John:

"While I was at NHCC two significant things bolstered my interest in photography and influenced me greatly. In 1978 I was awarded Best News Photo Of The Year for college newspapers by the MN Newspaper Association for my photograph of Hubert Humprey's Funeral. The other thing that greatly influenced my photographic career was meeting and studying with Will Agar. Will became my mentor and friend. His quiet demeanor and quirky classic way of seeing the world has impacted my vision, and photography throughout my life."

A platinum palladium print by Philip Anderson titled, Dad Fishing

ARTIST: Philip R. Luoma Anderson

TITLE: Dad - Opening Fishing on Lake Minnewawa

MATERIALS: Platinum Palladium Print

Artist Statement Excerpt from Philip:

“The Platinum Palladium Print is a contact print. I coated the paper with a platinum-palladium solution, placed a digital negative the size of the print on the dried paper, and then made an exposure using an ultraviolet light box. I pursue projects to fill me up with energy and as a catharsis to life's many highs and lows. My first classes at NHCC were in 2001. I had been teaching for a few years and took classes to learn more about B&W photography and printing. I found the classes inspirational.”

A painting by Kat Bryan Wallace titled, Santiago Golden Sunset Fall

ARTIST: Kat Bryan Wallace

TITLE: Santiago Golden Sunset Fall

MATERIALS: Oil on canvas

Artist Statement Excerpt from Kat:

"I graduated from North Hennepin with an Associate in Arts in December 2010 and an Associate of Fine Arts in August 2011.  I had the most amazing instructors at North Hennepin and it was a wonderful experience working with the many talented instructors. In May 2014, I graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  Since that time I continue to paint, draw and take pictures as well as write preteen sci-fi novels under the name N. Kathleen Bryan Wallace and have just finished my third novel in a series I call Hidden Lifeforms. The painting I have furnished for the exhibit is one of several I have done of this particular tree in the woods. It is in a clearing not far off route 11 in the countryside where I have returned time after time because it is a place of peace and contentment."

We invite you to stop by the gallery on August 26 and take a look at the full art exhibit!
