Phi Theta Kappa

A chapter is a branch of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society that services the community college and consists of a faculty advisor, officers, and members.  

Phi Xi is 50+ years old and has a long and proud tradition on Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Fellowship. Phi Xi regularly holds chapter meetings, does college projects, sponsors events on campus, performs community service, and travels to leadership development opportunities.

PTK sends out invitations to students who have completed 12 or more credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at NHCC.  Once you gain membership, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain a member. 

Emailed and mailed invitations with your membership acceptance code are sent every fall, spring, and summer semester to eligible students. Students who wish to join the honor society must accept membership online at https://join.ptk.org/. 

Membership into PTK costs a one-time fee of $80. If you receive financial aid through NHCC, you can charge the $80 to your package, unless you are a PSEO student. 

Once you are a member, you will gain access to the PTK D2L page where you will find the chapter meeting link and upcoming announcements. 

Induction Ceremonies 
Every spring semester, the Phi Xi officer team organizes and holds a formal induction ceremony for newly invited members to recognize and celebrate their academic accomplishments. 

New Member Orientations 
Every fall and spring semester before the induction ceremony, the Phi Xi advisor holds a general meeting where interested, future, and new members of PTK can gain more knowledge about the honor society and ask all questions about membership. 

Five Star Competitive Edge 
Learn life skills and develop an online portfolio to display your accomplishments when transferring, applying for scholarships, or starting your career. The Five Star Competitive Edge can be initiated through your my.ptk.org dashboard. 

Hallmarks 
PTK’s Hallmark Awards Program is a competitive program that honors individuals, chapters, and regions in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship based on research, action, and written reports. 

College Project 
The purpose of the College Project is to establish a supportive relationship between the chapter and the college administration. The chapter meets with the college president or other appropriate administrator to determine the College Project each year, which can be anything that supports the college’s mission.

Honors in Action 
Honors in Action is a timely, interdisciplinary, and issue-driven subject chosen to promote discussion and to inspire individual, chapter, and regional Honors in Action Projects. More information can be found at www.ptk.org. 

PTK members have access to more than $90 million in scholarships, a benefit unmatched by other honor societies. Scholarships are available at over 700 four-year colleges and universities, directly from those institutions. 

PTK administers scholarships using a fall and spring common application. Applicants may apply for one scholarship on the common application or multiple scholarships at the same time. The Fall Common Application, transfer scholarships, opens in October and closes in December. The Spring Common Application, community college scholarships, opens in February and closes in April.
