The NHCC Library has many books to help you with your reading and writing assignments. Below are some key areas of focus in your English classes and tips on finding books in those areas. The best thing to do is to go to the call number areas given and look through a number of the books on the shelf in order to decide which one will be the most helpful to you.
Encyclopedias -- Encyclopedias provide brief overview articles about specific topics, such as key concepts, countries, historical events, and famous persons. They can be found in the Reference collection at REF AE 5.

Dictionaries – English language dictionaries will provide you with definitions of words you are not familiar with and can be used to check for proper spelling as well. You can find dictionaries in the Reference collection in the call number range REF PE 1601 – REF PE 1630. - dictionary.com Thesaurus – a thesaurus is a book that provides lists of words that have similar meanings (also called synonyms). Thesauri can be found in the Reference collection at the call number REF PE 1591. There are some copies in the General collection at the same call number that can be checked out.
