Job Description

Access Services supports students with any hidden or visible qualified disability. Access Assistants provide one-on-one assistance for a student with a disability by attending their class or lab with them.  

Responsibilities for Access Assistants include providing one-on-one assistance for students during their class or lab. In-class or lab requests may include physically manipulating equipment or materials, guiding the student around the classroom or campus, and providing descriptions of the classroom or immediate environment. May also assist the student with navigating online course content, such as reading aloud or providing visual descriptions of pictures/graphics, and assisting with assignment submission if course technology is inaccessible. Additional duties include note-taking (typed), scribing, and other duties as assigned.  

This is an on-campus position 


Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally. Applicants must be reliable, detail oriented, and have a strong work ethic.  

Must be comfortable using D2L and able to take typed notes during class.  

Must be able to commit to attending all class sessions with the student.  

Experience with customer service and Microsoft Office is preferred.  

Must have desire to work with others, specifically individuals with disabilities. Experience working within a disability services setting is a plus 

Work study eligibility is preferred.  


Work Schedule

Applicants may apply to assist during Class 1 (Mon/Wed), Class 2 (Tues/Thurs) or both classes (Mon-Thurs).  

Class 1: Mondays/Wednesdays from 1:45-5pm (6.5 hours per week). Must be available for the full shift both days. Note: this is a ceramics course.  

Class 2: Tuesdays/Thursdays from 10:45am-12:30pm (3.5 hours per week). Must be available for the full shift both days. Note: this is an exercise science course. Interest or experience in exercise science/fitness is preferred.  


Compensation $15.00/hour
