June is Pride Month!
PRIDE originated to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising which sparked the LGBTQ+ advocacy movement. The month aims to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
Holding both recognitions in esteem, we celebrate all of our LGBTQ+ community members here and throughout our nation, and we celebrate the freedom and independence of all, understanding there is still much work to be done.
We will be hosting two Lunch & Learn opportunities in the month of June at NHCC focusing on the topic of PRIDE.
On Tuesday, June 4 from 2-3pm in the Campus Center Room 244 NHCC's DEI department will be hosting a 2SLGBTQIA+ History Lunch & Learn event.
This Lunch & Learn will dive into the history of LGBTQ+ experiences in the United States. Exploring how "PRIDE" has manifested and grown throughout the years, starting with the very first PRIDE which was not a celebration of love, but instead was a riot for rights. Today's Lunch & Learn will also be a great time for folks to grab a copy of the "All Boys Aren't Blue: A Memoir-Manifesto" by George M. Johnson.
On Thursday, June 20 from 11am-12pm in the Campus Center Room 244 NHCC's DEI dept will be hosting another Lunch & Learn event.
This Lunch & Learn will be an opportunity for folks to join in a conversation around the book "All Boys Aren't Blue: A Memoir-Manifesto" by George M. Johnson, explore some of the author's experiences as a queer person of color and engage in some mindful reflections.
We hope to see you there!
