STEM Career Fair FAQs

What happens at the STEM Career Fair?

Employers at the STEM Career Fair will be eager to speak with students regarding employment opportunities at their local companies. Most are hiring interns and entry level positions in science, technology, engineering, math and healthcare industries.

Who can attend?

Students and alumni at all ages, stages and degree pathways are welcome to attend. Students who preregister in Handshake and/or download the Handshake app at the event will be entered into a drawing for one of four $25 gift cards to the NHCC bookstore!

What should I bring?

Bring your smile, personal pitch, and copies of your resume in a folder. Consider bringing a reusable bag to collect promotional items.

How should I prepare?

There are several ways you can make the most of the STEM Career Fair.

Attend one or several workshops hosted by NHCC Career Services.

Activate your Handshake profile – the official job and career board for NHCC students.

  • Preview a complete list of employers attending through the event registration link.

  • Personalize your Handshake page and register for the event.

Join NHCC’s i-Prep: Internship Readiness Program.

  • This program helps students prepare for an internship.

  • Program information and sign-up can be found from the ‘Self-Registration’ toolbar tab on the main D2L landing page.

  • Complete the 4-steps to earn a $200 stipend, a micro-credential to showcase you have proficiency in a particular professional skill and receive a D2L that certifies you as ‘internship ready!’

  • Attend an i-Prep Zoom workshop on October 9

Schedule an appointment to meet with an NHCC Career Services representative.

What should I wear?

Professionalism matters and it starts with your appearance! Students will want to wear business casual attire, such as pants and a collared shirt. Avoid being too casual with leggings, shorts, hoodies and branded T-shirts. Uniform scrubs for nursing students are appropriate.

What should I ask employers?

Employers are excited to speak with students and appreciate those who do their homework to learn about their organization and available positions. Check out Handshake to see what employers are attending, visit their websites and jot down notes and questions to ask. You may also want to attend a ‘Prepare for the Fair’ workshop (October 30, November 1, November 4) to help you craft and practice your personal pitch.

Can I show up at any time?

Yes, you can attend any time during the event, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
