NHCC Hosts the Farmers Market and Concerts in the Courtyard
From July through October, the Brooklyn Park Farmer's Market brought just shy of 7,000 people to NHCC's West Parking Lot on Wednesday afternoons. Simply put, a farmers market is community supporting community. We couldn't have done it without our local farmers and merchants!
We also partnered with the City of Brooklyn Park, and Minneapolis Northwest Tourism, to develop a Courtyard Concert Series this summer/fall at NHCC! And it was a hit! The Concert Series brought an audience of nearly 600 community members and students together on-campus, under the stars, rain, or shine. Among the many performances, local music group, Salsa Del Soul kept us dancing in the courtyard; and Mixed Precipitation's theatrical, operetta rendition of Romeo and Juliet brought over 100 opera and Shakespeare lovers to campus as well!
Stay tuned for more concerts in 2024!

2023 CARE Week Happenings
To showcase the services and resources offered at the CARE Center, staff held CARE Week in early October! During CARE Week, staff hosted a breakfast, a Resource Fair, presented art therapy demonstrations and MORE! 25 community organizations tabled at the Resource Fair and nearly 130 students were in attendance! We'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone who participated! A variety of departments had tables at the Resource Fair, including representatives from Hennepin County Social Services, Second Harvest Heartland, Rainbow Health, PCs For People, and many more! This was a great opportunity for students to connect and learn about resources that are offered nearby in the community and also on-campus. After tabling at the Resource Fair, a few organizations expressed how nice it was to network and be able to connect with representatives from other organizations during the event, as well. Wonderful work, CARE team!
Smudging Ceremony Recently Held in the Courtyard
NHCC's new Diversity and Equity Specialist, Justice Fisher held a Smudging Ceremony on Indigenous People’s Day in the courtyard. Indigenous People’s Day exists to celebrate and honor past, current, and future indigenous folks, their history, land, and culture. Smudging is a cultural ceremony practiced by Indigenous nations. The practice of smudging includes the burning of various medicinal plants to cleanse ourselves and connect our spirits to the Creator. During the smudging ceremony, it is said that the smoke from burning medicinal plants rises with our prayers to the Spirit world with our ancestors and the Creator. The smudging ceremony aims to ground and/or center those who participate – negative energy, feelings, and emotions are lifted in the hopes of healing the mind, body, and spirit. Sage is used to cleanse and purify, offering strength, wisdom, and clarity. Thank you to Justice, for hosting this powerful and enlightening event!
NHCC Hosts a Successful STEM Career & Internship Fair
Thank you to the employers who participated in our STEM Career & Internship Fair last week! 25 employers came out to connect with students regarding their employment and future talent needs. All students were invited to attend, not just those currently enrolled in a health, or science degree. Several recruiters at the event highlighted their multifaceted roles – identifying potential, hiring talent, and educating students on the plethora of opportunities and career paths open to them. Student attendees enjoyed learning about different industries, organizations, and careers, and were excited to have contacts that they can follow up with when they're ready to make that next step. We are very fortunate to have committed employer partners in our community, who are willing to share their knowledge, and expertise with our students!
