North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) and St. Cloud State University (SCSU) will perform their second annual joint concert on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Theatre (FAC 178). Led by NHCC director David Mantini and St. Cloud State University director Dr. Catharine Bushman, each group will perform a variety of works for winds and percussion celebrating the anticipation of spring and all the warmth and energy it promises to bring! All are welcome and admission is free.
The NHCC Concert Band will perform a variety of marches including "Cosmopolitan America" by Helen May Butler. During the 1904 Theodore Roosevelt election campaign, Cosmopolitan America was selected as the official march of the Republican Party. Butler's band performed that year at the Republican National Convention. The march bears a dedication to her father, Lucius Marshall Butler, a railroad engineer who was instrumental in the design of early Pullman cars.
The SCSU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Catharine Bushman will open the program with Children's March by Percy Grainger. The lyrical Remember the Remarkables by Grace Baugher and Cafe 512 by Ryan George will follow. They will close with Chavez, 1927 by Giovanni Santos.
The bands will also combine to close out the concert; two movements from Nubia Donjuan's "Little Mexican Suite" and “His Honor" by Henry Filmore.
