In partnership with the Student Affairs Division, the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Office welcomes you to attend the Women's History Month Panel. Our panel will feature three accomplished women who have contributed to advancing women’s causes in important ways. Here are the panelists: Amy Dellwo, VP of Public Policy for NUWAY, Tayler Hill, Product Line Manager at Nike in women’s apparel, and Deidre Jackson, Supervisor in the Behavioral Health Division at DHS. The panelists will share their personal and professional journeys, providing insight into how they have found success in spite of the many challenges and barriers they have faced throughout their journey. At the end, attendees will have 30 minutes to ask the panelists questions. This panel will be moderated by NHCC’s own Vice President of Student Success, Julio Vargas-Essex.

Panelist and Moderator Bios:

Amy Dellwo is the Vice President of Public Policy for NUWAY. Ms. Dellwo is responsible for NUWAY’s short and long-term goals related to health plan arrangements, state and federal agency relationships, policy development, and work with legislative and congressional leaders. Ms. Dellwo is the President-Elect of the Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health and Government Affairs Committee co-chair. She is also a board member of the Twin Cities Recovery Project. A majority of Ms. Dellwo’s career prior to NUWAY was spent at the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), which is the largest state of Minnesota agency, serving well over 1 million people with an annual budget of $11 billion and more than 6,500 employees throughout the state of Minnesota where she worked for 20 years with the most recent role of chief of staff and director of government affairs. Ms. Dellwo has a bachelor’s degree in community health education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and master’s degree in public affairs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Tayler Hill graduated from high school in 2009 with the all-time leading scoring record in the state of Minnesota for boys and girls with 3,888 points. Later graduated from Ohio State in 2013. Becoming the two time all big-ten first team, 3-time all-defensive of team. Her junior year, she led the big ten in scoring and won the big ten player of the year. Ms. Hill is currently the Product Line Manager at Nike in women’s apparel. Developing strong relationships is the foundation of everything she does. She is a strong believer in helping everyone feel like they belong as it is my personal belief, everyone is perfectly created in their own body. Ms. Hill was drafted 1st round; 4th pick in the 2013 WNBA draft to the Washington Mystics. Ms. Hill played professional basketball for 5.5 years in D.C, 1.5 years with the Dallas Wings and overseas. She was inducted into the class 2022 Minnesota Hall of Fame. Ms. Hill recently retired from the WNBA; however, her most important title is “mommy.

Deidre Jackson is a supervisor in the Behavioral Health Division at the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) and has worked in Healthcare Administration for 28 years. Ms. Jackson's passion is helping people understand the complexities of the United States Healthcare system and how to navigate the healthcare system. Ms. Jackson is a mother of three adult children and one granddaughter. She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Metropolitan State University and a double master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and Management from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Julio Vargas-Essex is the Vice President of Student Success at North Hennepin Community College, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. With over 15 years of enrollment management and student affairs experience, Mr. Vargas-Essex has served on several community, state, and local committees and councils. In his role as Vice President of Student Success, Mr. Vargas-Essex provides executive leadership to all campus Student Affairs and Enrollment Management departments. With a holistic and inclusive approach, Mr. Vargas-Essex believes that individuals can realize their true “calling” in life through education and by focusing on values that inspire others to be “Idealistic Leaders.” He holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin– Stout and M.A. in Psychology from Metropolitan State University–St. Paul, MN.
