Exit 27 by Aleks Merilo- November 30-December 4, 2016
Directed by Mike Ricci
Fine Arts Theatre, FAC 178
Please note: Mature audiences only
A harrowing tale based on the true story of the ‘Lost Boys of Utah’, this play focuses on the FLDS, the fundamentalist sect of the Mormon religion, and their practice of abandoning adolescent boys who have sinned against the church. Taken out to Exit 27 on a highway between Utah and Colorado, they are left to survive on their own. Unable to return to their communities, and taught to mistrust any outsiders, they are incapable of seeking help from any ‘outsiders’. This play explores the dangers of indoctrination, religious extremism, and the lasting effects of abandonment. Award-winning playwright Aleks Merilo will be in attendance as part of our audience talkbacks after each performance in which issues presented in the play will be discussed.
