About Sidow Mohammed

I am a lecturer in both the Arabic language and in the Culture of the Middle East and North Africa. I have also taught courses on the Introduction of Islamic Law and Reading the Qur'an. I bring more than 25 years of experience to the teaching of Arabic to non-Arabic speakers. I began my teaching as I was earning my PhD at Um Durman Islamic University in Khartoum, Sudan. I taught at the International University of African in Khartoum before moving to the United States to continue teaching. I have experience teaching students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I believe that learning Arabic can open students up to good career opportunities and can introduce them to Middle East and Islamic history, culture, and civilization. In an age when international connections are increasingly important, learning Arabic (the language of over 250 million people and a co-official language of both the United Nations and the African Union) is a great way to prepare students for these new conditions.
