Nominator Comment(s)

David Mantini,
Music Faculty

Dave is active in the Twin Cities community as a conductor and/or band member in several area bands. He is also active in MMEA, the MN Music Educators Association; he is currently an officer. As I mentioned earlier, Dave commits himself over 100% to all 3 areas at NHCC: Music, Honors, and PTK. His extremely high level of expertise combined with his loyalty to NHCC make him an impressive candidate for the Excellence in Education Award, and an exemplary faculty member for his students and colleagues.

Dr. Christine Lloyd,
Economics Faculty

While all my professors have been amazing in my first semester at NHCC, Dr. Lloyd was a clear stand out from the rest when it came to professionalism and work ethic. It is extremely clear how much she cares and the work that went into this course.

Dr. Lisa Whalen,
English Faculty

I truly believe that Professor Whalen demonstrates devotion to students above and beyond the call of duty. She has gracefully accepted the transition to online learning and is understanding of students in the current situation. She fully deserves the Excellence in Education Award for the role she plays at NHCC.

Robert Rusnacko,
Accounting Faculty

I will always remember Professor Rusnacko and be grateful for his guidance and solid basis to my career. It has been an honor to learn under his instruction! He deserves this honor.

Diane McDonagh,
American Sign Language Faculty

In my opinion, service to students describes Professor McDonagh and her classes. She is accessible to students and encourages students to find ways to expand their horizons and experiences within the field. Indeed, through her educating students she serves the Deaf community and the campus community by raising awareness.

Bridget Murphy,
English Faculty

Bridget Murphy began her teaching career at NHCC in 1987. As a dedicated adjunct instructor for the first 8 years, she spent many hours outside the classroom working tirelessly for students. She is one of NHCC's unsung heroes, because she is humble and works behind the scenes, not wishing to brag or boast about her accomplishments or talents. She has dedicated her entire professional career to NHCC and deserves to be recognized for all of her hard work and commitment.

Debra Matchinsky,
Psychology Faculty

I'm so happy with the work Debra has poured into helping our students explore undergraduate research opportunities. She's developed a coherent curriculum that ties in so many campus aspects. I can't wait to see what else she will develop to help our students.

Melissa Lott,
Exercise Science Faculty

Currently she is a Lead for Learner Outcomes Assessment on campus. She has navigated the Exercise Science Department in making sure all of the classes are properly identifying learner outcomes. As you have read, she has training in Rubric development, video-based assessments, aligning instructional strategies, designing courses for student learning, and improving student-to-content interactions on D2L. She implements her assessment knowledge in her classes. Finally, Missy is available to her students. It is quite often that her students are sitting in her office during office hours chatting about class, life, employment/education opportunities, and serves as a mentor to many. She genuinely cares about our students in our program.

Gina Dabrowski,
Art/Graphic Design Faculty

 Image of Gina Dabrowski

Gina has carefully designed teaching online classes to incorporate clearly defined and articulated rubrics for student to follow in assignments, discussions, and papers all part of the online environment. By following the guidelines, the students achieve greater success. The fear of testing is offset through practice quizzes giving the student a "preview" of what they will be tested on. Gina is fun to work with, supportive, engaging and gives NHCC as well as Minnesota State Colleges a welcoming feel.
