A Message in Support of Transgender Individuals
North Hennepin Community College recognizes that Trans and Gender-nonconforming individuals often experience discrimination due to lack of civil rights for their gender identity or expression. As an institution of higher education, we acknowledge that we still have work to do to meet the needs of these students, faculty, and staff, and we are capable of doing more to serve them. NHCC seeks to renew our commitment in upholding practices that maintain a supportive environment free from harassment, intimidation, and/or discrimination, and that allows individuals to express themselves in a manner that is congruent with their gender identity. We firmly advocate for laws and rights that protect Trans+ and Gender-nonconforming students, faculty, and staff, and oppose those that work to strip away their civil rights and liberties. We will continue to evaluate our own policies and procedures to support and protect individuals who identify as Trans+ and Gender-nonconforming. We believe that these individuals deserve the right to have their gender identity acknowledged and respected by their campus community.
