Get Involved!

Getting involved on campus is one of the best ways to improve your overall college experience! Whether you're interested in student government, leadership development, clubs and organizations, recreational sports, or fine arts, we believe we have an activity for you. Take a look!

  • Recreational Sports

    North Hennepin Community College offers a number of intramural, extramural, and community-based sporting opportunities for students.

    • Intramural sports are made up of NHCC students who compete against each other.
    • Extramural, or club, sports are made of NHCC students who compete against other area community college teams.
    • Community-based sports teams are organized to compete with other community organizations.

    Fall 2017 Schedule

    Flag Football (Club)

    The NHCC flag football team has won the Metro Championship the past three years in a row, and will be going for a 4-peat when the season kicks off in September! Since this is a club sport, members of the team will be competing against other area community colleges and will be expected to travel to away games. Previous football, or flag football experience is encouraged. Games will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:45 p.m. throughout the fall semester. If you are interested in playing, please contact Kevin Manson.

    Participation is free, but you must be a currently enrolled student at NHCC.

    Soccer (Club)

    All students who are interested in soccer are welcome to join! Scrimmages and games will be scheduled throughout fall semester, and the club will meet on Fridays from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the soccer field located behind the Health and Wellness Center (HWC). If you are interested in playing, contact Kevin Manson.

    Participation is free, but you must be a currently enrolled student at NHCC.

    Open Volleyball

    Everyone is welcome to join in on some pick-up volleyball! Open volleyball will take place on Tuesdays and Thurdays from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Center gymnasium, throughout fall semester.

    Participation is free, but you must bring your valid student ID to pariticipate.

  • Student Senate

    Mission

    The Student Senate is the official voice of the NHCC students.

    Officer Eligibility

    All officers shall act in accordance with the Constitution. The term for executive board officers is one year, beginning on July 1 and ending on June 30 of the following year. Executive board officers may run for a second term. No one may serve as an officer of the Student Senate for more than two years.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • All executive board officers shall attend all Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA) general assembly meetings. Appeals may be made to the Student Senate executive board.
    • The president shall preside at all Student Senate meetings, represent the Student Senate to the college and others, and convene the executive board at least monthly during an academic term.
    • The vice president shall assume the duties and responsibilities during the president's absence.
    • The secretary shall record the meeting minutes of the Student Senate and maintain a permanent record of said minutes in the Student Senate computer, along with a hard copy on file in the Student Senate office.
    • The public relations coordinator shall be responsible for posting the agenda on the Student Senate bulletin board two (2) days prior to a Student Senate meeting.
    • The legislative coordinator shall be responsible for all legislative affairs of the Student Senate that shall be conducted in the best interest of the North Hennepin Community College student body.

Campus Center 

The Campus Center is at the heart of North Hennepin Community College. It's a great place to visit if you're looking to connect with other students, eat lunch, study, or take advantage of the multitude of resources our college has to offer! Here's a little more about what you might find:    

  • Campus Cafe

    Are you hungry? If so, you've come to the right place! The Campus Cafe features a variety of meal options. You'll find Aldo's Burgers, The Nice Slice Pizza, Noodle House, a fresh salad bar, gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches at Molten Grill and much more. If you regularly use the Campus Cafe, make sure you sign up for Cafe Rewards so you'll receive exclusive savings and special discounts! For example, for every $50 you spend, you'll receive a $3 credit.

  • Food Cupboard

    Food Cupboard

    The food cupboard is open to all NHCC students, including students enrolled in our University Center. This resource provides ready-to-eat food, as well as supplementary items such as toothpaste, shampoo, and other hygiene products. Here, you can:

    • Utilize food support services
    • Donate non-perishable food items
    • Volunteer for service hours

    To use the food cupboard, you must bring your student ID. When you arrive, you will be signed in and can select items from the shelves. Use of the food cupboard is free and confidential. It is staffed limited hours during the week, and when volunteers are available. If you stop by when it is not staffed, come to the Diversity & Equity Center during office hours and someone will assist you. If you are unable to make it during regular business hours, stop by the Public Safety Office and someone will be able to assist you.

  • Health Clinic

    Student Health Clinic 

    North Hennepin Community College and Fairview Clinics have teamed up to make healthcare convenient and affordable to students through an on-site healthcare clinic. Staffed by a certified physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner, NHCC students can receive care for minor illnesses, injuries and skin conditions with no out-of-pocket costs. No appointment is needed.

  • Mother's Room

    Mother's Room

    The mother's room is for parents who need space to feed children, nurse, or utilize a pump. If you would like to use this room, contact the Student Life Office or Public Safety for access.

  • Reflection Room

    Reflection Room

    The reflection room is a space for students to practice peaceful meditation, prayer, relaxation and quiet contemplation. It can be used any time during normal operating hours, which include:

    Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
    Saturday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Study Spaces

    Fireside Lounge

    Fireside Lounge 

    The fireside lounge is a fun space to meet with friends, study, eat a snack or lunch, stay warm by the fireplace, and more.

    It is open to students during operating hours, which include:

    Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
    Saturday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

    Study Lab

    Study Lab 

    This a quiet study space where students can work on projects, use computers, print papers, or use the copy machine.

    It is open to students during operating hours, which include:

    Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
    Saturday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • The Cube

    The Cube 

    The cube is a lounge where students can come to relax and hang out with their friends before, between or after class. The room contains a foosball table, pool table, ping pong table, board games, Playstation 4 and much more. This is one of our favorite areas on campus!

    This space can be used any time during operating hours, which include:

    Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
    Saturday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
