#1 – Star ID Migration Key Updates

  1. Please log off NHCC LAN if possible by 5PM August 12th.  The migration process will take until approximately midnight August 13th.  When do you log off, the log off process will not complete normally.  It may appear confusing to you, although nothing will be “broken” in the background.
  2. Our reporting shows that 94 NHCC Faculty and Staff who have not used StarID previously have not claimed their StarID as of August 8th.  To avoid any issues with loggin in August 13th or after, please Claim your StarID and set your StarID Password prior to August 12th by visiting starid.mnscu.edu.
  3. Faculty:  Karen Carr asks that faculty might consider in their Syllabi the October 7th Student movement to StarID, should you be willing to add this onto your Syllabi and in D2L.  This may also be something to consider when establishing assignment due dates and testing dates.
  4. Faculty:  The faculty login to D2L will continue to use your formal login IDs after August 12th.  As the student migration date on October 7th approaches additional communication will be given as to the D2L login cut-over date to use StarID as the login ID.  Please note “no changes” for D2L login ID will occur as a result of the August 12th StarID migration for Faculty or Staff.
  5. New Faculty Orientations Aug 12 – Aug 14th:  Jane Wilson will have extra laptops and instructions on-hand to assist all New Faculty with obtaining, claiming their StarIDs and Resetting their Passwords.
  6. Week of August 19th -  August 31st:
    1. All Department Administrative Assistants will have instructions and spare laptop computers on-hand to assist Faculty and Staff who need to Claim their StarID, Set or Reset their Passwords.  This will expedite Faculty and Staff to login to their campus computers should they have forgotten their StarID and/or Passwords.
  7. All Faculty will have the instructions taped onto their computer monitors in their NHCC offices by Monday, August 19th.  For off-campus Faculty, the instructions are found later in this update.
  8. ATS Help Desk will be availabe in the IT Suite located in the CBT Building as well as in the CBT Computer Lab to assist Faculty and Staff who need to Claim their StarID, Set or Reset their Passwords.  This will expedite Faculty and Staff to login to their campus computers should they have forgotten their StarID and/or Passwords.
  9. We hope that our planning and communication efforts result in an improved transition experience.  We also hope that the communication postcard and summer communication updates have improved the technology transparency from past summers!  We look forward to your comments on this approach!

#2:  How To Claim Your StarID

Step One:  From any browser (on or off campus) enter the following web address:  starid.mnscu.edu   Do not enter the preceding “www” or “http or https”.  It will automatically take you to the MnSCU site for StarID Activation.  If by chance, you your browser automatically fill in the “www” or “http” or “https” and you receive a certificate error, click on the option to proceed directly to the site although it will recommend that you do not.  It will be okay in this instance.

Step Two:  From this screen click on the “Activate Your StarID” Link.  It will take you to the Page below in Step Three.

Step Three:  From this screen you have many options.  Please note if you ever need to reset your StarID Password, this will where you will go.  If you ever forget your StarID, this will also where you will go to re-learn your StarID.  For now, we will activate your StarID here, if you have never Activated or used your StarID previously.  If you have previously activated or used your StarID previously, you can skip the Activating StarID and StarID Password Steps all together.  If you are unsure, please continue by clicking on “Activate StarID”.

Step Four:  Since the August 12th Migration involves Staff and Faculty, move your mouse pointer under Employees and Select Tech ID (Employee ID).  We will activate your StarID using your TechID as a reference.

Step Five:  From this screen, use the pull down field and Select “North Hennepin Community College” for the School Identifier.  Next enter your assigned Tech ID number.  Last enter your Social Security Number.  With all three fields entered, select Continue.

You will be provided your StarID.  Please make a note of it in a secure method until you learn it from memory.  You will also have the option to set your StarID Password by completing the steps below.  You will also be asked to accept the Terms of the MnSCU Acceptable Use Policy by checking the associated box.

#3:  How To Reset Your StarID Password

Step One:  From any browser (on or off campus) enter the following web address:  starid.mnscu.edu   Do not enter the preceding “www” or “http or https”.  It will automatically take you to the MnSCU site for StarID Activation.  If by chance, you your browser automatically fill in the “www” or “http” or “https” and you receive a certificate error, click on the option to proceed directly to the site although it will recommend that you do not.  It will be okay in this instance.

From the screen below, please take a moment to familiarize yourself of all the options available.  You can activate a starID, change password, forgot password, expired password, forgot StarID, forgot StarID and password.  Starid.mnscu.edu is a critical site and you may want to bookmark it.

Step Three:  With the August migration, we are migration Faculty and Staff, so please click on Employees, and select Tech ID.

Step Four:  To set a new password, Select TechID (Employee ID)
