50 Faces in 50 Days Birthday Celebration Countdown

North Hennepin Community College will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on September 19, 2016, and what better way to ramp up excitement than to shine a light on our very own. Beginning on August 1, NHCC will post a daily vignette that features members of our diverse and inspiring family.

All of this will culminate with a special ceremony in NHCC's courtyard where Brooklyn Park Mayor, Jeff Lunde, will proclaim September 19 as North Hennepin Day!  Until then enjoy all the beautiful faces and uplifting words below.

    My connections at NHCC provided me with my first career opportunity, and now, a few year later, they have provided me with my current career. I have so many fond memories from my time as a graphic design student, a student ambassador, and all the way up to my current position. I’m so thankful for the lifetime friendships and the network of co-workers that have been built.

    I have taught at NHCC for 35 years. It has been amazing to watch the technology change from when I started until now. NHCC has grown and bloomed a great amount over the years. When I started here, I was a pioneer in starting my new program. Now our programs are growing at a very fast rate. NHCC has become so much more diverse over my years here! It reminds me of my high school in Hawaii. The faculty has always been welcoming, which has made North Hennepin Community College feel like home.

    I am hopeful that NHCC can expand its partnerships with other colleges so that in the future, students can easily transfer to almost any college in the area. Hopefully we can offer many options so that their transfer process is smooth and enjoyable.

Former graduates of NHCC that I have encountered are proud of the accomplishments they have rightfully earned from their education at NHCC. Our hard-working staff, faculty and administration continue to have a strong desire to maintain NHCC as a leader in higher education, and, therefore, I firmly believe they will remain passionate to offering an exciting campus for all students to gather and learn, all the while providing innovative and sound courses, curriculum and certifications which will benefit the graduate, as well as the state of Minnesota and our nation.

  • Briefly tell us why you are hopeful for the next 50 years of NHCC? As a marketing instructor, I continually ask my students questions about need-fulfillment through the marketing concept. NHCC would not exist if we did not continually satisfy the needs of students and the community though programs, degrees, services, infrastructure, and instructors that help develop a critically thinking and skilled workforce and community. Even though we may not know the specific skills required for the professions and careers of 2066, I am confident that NHCC will continue to ask the right questions, develop the necessary plans, and inspire students to meet the challenges of an ever changing environment.

  • In 15 words or less, describe the impact NHCC has had on your life?  When I came to NHCC, I came only with the intent to see what I could offer students.  It never crossed my mind what they could offer me.  I’ve learned a new perspective from them.

  • Briefly tell us why you are hopeful for the next 50 years of NHCC?  Expand is the word that comes to mind.  My hope is that PhDs will be offered and that students will continue to have an easy transition to jobs.

  • In 15 words or less, describe the impact NHCC has had on your life? NHCC is an extension of my home.  Students have influenced my life for the better. 

  • Briefly tell us why you are hopeful for the next 50 years of NHCC? My hopes for NHCC for the next fifty years is that it continues to grow with the community and is a catalyst for positive change.
